Abstract
⺠Flow characteristics around a sphere located over a flat plate was experimentally investigated by PIV. ⺠Boundary layer velocity profile causes obviously asymmetry in the wake flow patterns. ⺠Jet-like flow increasing the flow entrainment between the core and wake regions is formed over the plate. ⺠Flow structures are restless due to the continuously developing shear flow phenomena of sphere wake. ⺠Interaction of boundary layer and sphere wake creates a vortex-induced separation on the wall.
