Abstract
Natural convection heat transfer from a heat generating horizontal cylinder enclosed in a square cavity, where a temperature difference exists across its vertical walls has been experimentally investigated for the range 2×104 ► Natural convection from a horizontal cylinder to a differentially heated enclosure. ► The cylinder heat transfer increases due to interaction between cylinder and cavity. ► Cavity flow structures are broken down as the cylinder plume grows stronger. ► A transition is observed from flow dominated by the cavity to that by the cylinder.
