Abstract
⺠Ketonization of acetic acid was accomplished in aqueous liquid phase on Ru/TiO2/C catalysts. ⺠In situ pre-reduction results in high activity and selectivity to acetone in liquid phase. ⺠The catalysts were essentially inactive without the pre-reduction. ⺠Formation of Ti3+ species plays a crucial role in ketonization, even in the presence of water. ⺠XRD, XPS, EPR, and TPR were used to characterize catalyst reducibility and formation of Ti3+.
