Abstract
We propose a new design for monolithic solar water splitting based on porous multi-junction thin-film silicon solar cells. Porosity minimizes the Ohmic losses associated to ion transport offering the possibility to maintain high efficiencies when up-scaling. Despite some device degradation from the incorporation of holes, the solar to hydrogen efficiency is expected to be higher for the porous than the dense monoliths.226
