Abstract
⺠We characterized inter-annual variation in the seasonal patterns of balsam fir tree growth. ⺠We identified the most important climatic factors related to the growth pattern. ⺠Air temperature and solar radiation appeared to regulate tree growth initiation. ⺠Maximum growth rate was mainly related to snowpack depth and the timing of snowmelt. ⺠Timing associated with growth cessation appears to be generally independent of climate.
