Abstract
Effects of the transport of a short-pulse laser train having a step temporal profile through an inhomogeneous planar participating medium are studied. Discrete variations in the scattering albedo and the optical depth across the layers are considered to be the cause of inhomogeneties in the medium. The problem is analyzed using the finite volume method. Transmittance and reflectance signals are studied for different situations.
