The minimum principal of Pontryagin is used solve an optimal control problem for heating a layer of tissue in order to destroy a cancerous tumor. Distributions of temperature and thermal dose in the tissue at different moments of time are computed numerically. The influence of the cool-off period on thermal dose accumulation is investigated.
