Abstract
This review of literature allows a good comprehension of the causes and mechanisms of respiratory illness associated with inhalation of hydrophobic aerosols. A complementary analysis of the data from the poison centers would not bring supplementary useful information. Pathways for the prevention of these frequent and possibly severe accidents are identified: limitation of the respirable fraction of the generated aerosols, modulation of the hydrophobic properties of the solvents carrying the resins or their precursors, limitation of the indications of reactive monomers or prepolymers.
