Abstract
▸ Umf is an isostatic state that is the transition to fluid-like behaviour. ▸ The so-called 'homogeneous expansion' regime is not in fact homogeneous. ▸ The idea that bed expansion is due to the 'elasticity' of the bed is not tenable.
