Abstract
▸ We study segregation of granular materials in horizontal rotating drums. ▸ Numerical simulations are carried out with an original cellular automata model. ▸ Short and long time segregation dynamics are related to free surface flow dynamics. ▸ Good agreement is found between simulations and experiments. ▸ We suggest strategies to drive and reduce segregation in drums.
