Abstract
⺠We show that chaos can theoretically occur in pure and simple microbial competition. ⺠This is the first time such result is proven for time invariant competing systems. ⺠Chaos occurs when the two species grow following Contois growth and variable yield. ⺠We derive general conditions for the existence of periodic behavior in such systems.
