Abstract
⺠Simulations of high speed gas injection into packed granular beds using coupled CFD/DEM. ⺠Investigation of the transition from a static to a dynamic, circulating, bed with a distinctive ellipsoidal 'raceway'. ⺠Examination of factors governing transition, including bed pressure and particle shape. ⺠Development of a theoretical model governing the transition, which shows agreement with simulation.
