Abstract
⺠The solid state chemistry of theophylline is summarised. ⺠Hydration and dehydration is shown to induce phase impurity in some samples. ⺠Dehydration may occur in a series of steps via metastable phases. ⺠Hydration/dehydration methods and subsequent processing can impact on phase purity.
