► Phase transformation mechanism of salt to its free base is studied. ► Classical Nucleation Theory is used to interpret the nucleation of the free base. ► Phase transformation in excipients suspensions is predicted. ► Results are significant for optimal excipients selection. ► And thus significant for robust formulation design of solid dosage pharmaceuticals.
