Abstract

The short-channel structures designed and theoretically evaluated by Kołodziej and Łojewska [1] and [2] have been studied experimentally in terms of flow resistance as well as heat and mass transfer. The experimental results were correlated using theoretical solutions for the developing laminar flow as a basis. For the heat transfer study, the structures were heated by an electric current flowing through them. The mass transfer description was derived from the heat transfer results using a heat and mass transfer analogy. Considering both flow resistance and mass transfer, the triangular structure lies between monolith and packed bed. Modelling results showed that the triangular structures are able to significantly shorten a reactor.
