Abstract

- Ni(OH)2-coated nanoporous Au film was facilely prepared by electrochemical methods.
- Incorporation of Ni(OH)2 into/on nanoporous Au engendered mutual stabilization.
- Ni(II)/Ni(III) and Au/Au(I) co-mediated electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose.
- A 4 nm Ni(OH)2 coating significantly improved electrocatalysis and sensing of NPGF.
- The sensor was successfully applied to detect glucose in human blood serum.
