Abstract
► All enamels significantly improve the corrosion performance of steel in Ca(OH)2 with chloride. ► Pitting corrosion of uncoated and ME-coated steel occurred at different chloride concentrations. ► Calcium silicate mixed in enamel increased the cohesive strength of ME coating. ► The increased pores in inner layer reduced the cohesive strength of DE coating. ► The electrochemical properties of enamel-coated steel are sensitive to thickness variation.
