Abstract
- Three main stages of turbulent flame propagation in SI engines were discerned.
- Rate of initial acceleration is found to be a function of the flame radius only.
- Less than one third of the charge mass is burnt at a constant burning rate.
- More than two-thirds of the mass burns in a decelerating flame near the wall.
