Abstract
► An integrated LEM and CA method is developed for studying the effect of fuel stratification on HCCI combustion. ► The effect of fuel stratification on ignition is fuel dependent. ► Fuel stratification leads to increases in NOx and CO emissions. ► Turbulence retards combustion phasing. ► Non-uniform species properties and chemical reaction induce thermal gradients in HCCI combustion.
