Abstract
⺠A model of primary fragmentation of coal under different heating conditions is presented. ⺠The model accounts for thermal stress and volatile overpressure. ⺠Under fixed/moving bed conditions particles break at the center in coarse fragments. ⺠Under PF conditions a multitude of fines is produced from the outer shell. ⺠For large particles and severe heating conditions multiple successive events occur.
