Temperature and residence time of the combustion products in a waste-to-energy plant

► Processes occurring in the combustion chamber of a full scale waste-to-energy plant are simulated. ► Influence of mixed convection on the flow variables distribution is analysed for the first time. ► A procedure for evaluation temperature and residence time of combustion products is proposed. ► The results highlight some of the limitations of the restrictions imposed by the European legislation.
