Abstract
⺠Effects of ethanol fuel stratification on SCCI were studied with a multi-zone model. ⺠The model correctly predicted the temperature dependence of ethanol ignition timing. ⺠Ethanol fuel evaporation increases thermal stratification in an SCCI engine. ⺠This leads to significant reductions in the PRR and an extended high-load limit. ⺠The strategy is limited by increased NO formation and reduced combustion efficiency.
