Abstract
⺠We model the breakup of Diesel jets incorporating a coherent liquid core. ⺠We investigate the linear stability of a jet in a viscous gas phase. ⺠The viscous gas produces larger droplets at primary breakup compared to an inviscid gas. ⺠Penetration length agreement is found with experiments, where current models underestimate penetration.
