Abstract
⺠Magnetite was tested to activate H2O2 and persulfate for oil removal. ⺠Degradation of weathered and crude oil was studied. ⺠Both oxidants greatly reduced the contamination without significant by-products. ⺠Soluble FeII was found to be unable to activate chemical oxidation. ⺠H2O2 was non-selective but persulfate was less efficient towards HMW n-alkanes.
