Abstract
A series of Schiff base tridentate ligands and their respective Co(II) complexes have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, IR, NMR and UV-Visible spectra, thermal studies. The IR spectral data suggested that all the ligands acted as monobasic tridentate towards central Co(II) ion with an ONO donor atoms sequentially. Analytical data and magnetic susceptibility revealed 1:2 metal to ligand stoichiometry and octahedral geometry for all Co(II) complexes. All the prepared compounds were also screened for antimicrobial activity against 5 ESBL (Extended Spectrum β-lactamase) and 5 MBL (Metallo β-lactamase) producing uropathogens and for antitubercular activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (H37Rv strain).
