► A fundamental question that should be asked is which ratio between the theoretical and empirical constituents of EoS models is appropriate. ► While the structure of PC-SAFT is focused on representing molecular simulation rather than experimental facts, SAFT + Cubic relies on generalizing the regularities exhibited by experimental data. ► SAFT + Cubic appears as a robust estimator of densities, sound velocities and compressibilities both at low and high pressures, which is not a case of PC-SAFT.
