Abstract
Friction factor measurements were obtained for structured beds of smooth spheres and for randomly packed smooth and rough spheres, cubes, cylinders, ellipsoids (random and partially aligned), and crushed and weathered (rounded) rock. Particle shape, packing arrangement and roughness can influence the friction factor significantly.
