Abstract
⺠Abrasion was initially the main mode of attrition for 710-850 μm particles. ⺠Fragmentation became important as well as abrasion for 200-400 μm particles. ⺠Fragmentation was the main mode for < 180 μm particles in an air jet apparatus. ⺠The fines production rate was independent of particle size and proportional to time.
