► Urban cooling from a UK river is evaluated. ► Impact of urban form in the river corridor on propagation of cooling is assessed. ► Role of water temperature, solar radiation, diurnal cycle and wind speed are evaluated. ► Significant cooling can be found above the river, but is dependent on ambient conditions.
