Abstract
► From 2002 to 2009 almost 400 Catalan schools were built in 8 to 14 month timeframes. ► This study is the first sustainability assessment on these schools. ► The most sustainable technologies are precast concrete and prefabricated steel. ► High transportation aspects cause a low sustainability index for timber technology.
