Abstract
An analytical solution is obtained for the deformation of thin pressure sensitive adhesives, represented by the neo-Hookean model, confined between two rigid plates. The force acting on the plate is shown to have a maximum as a function of the elongation ratio λλ. The result is compared with the elastic limit of the block model which was proposed to predict the stress–strain curve of pressure sensitive adhesives. A possible way of improving the block model is discussed.
