Abstract
•The values of Γ for the solid Zn in eutectic Zn–Sn–Mg were determined.•The values ΔSf for solid Zn in eutectic Zn–Sn–Mg alloys were determined.•The values σSL and σGB for the eutectic composition of alloy were calculated.
The Gibbs–Thomson coefficient, Γ, the effective entropy change, ΔSf, the solid–liquid interfacial energy, σSL, and the grain boundary energy, σGB, for solid Zn solution at the eutectic Zn–Sn–Mg ternary alloy have been calculated using the grain boundary groove method with Bridgman-type directional solidification apparatus.
