Abstract
A simply supported 150 m long deck was built on the Cadiz Bay Bridge on the part that runs over the sea. It weighs about 4,000 t, and has the possibility of being removed to make a way through the bridge, and allow the navigation of large floating structures that exceed the vertical clearance of 69.00 m, which is what is available in the main navigation channel in the centre of the main span. This article describes the removable span and the special operations carried out for its installation. Within the complexity of these manoeuvres, the following can be highlighted: the transfer of the bridge deck from the dock to the floating barge, the positioning of the deck between piers, and the lifting operation to their final supports on the piers head.
