Abstract

The effect of reductant on the crystallization of CaO–MgO–SiO2 glass was investigated by XRD, SEM, EDS and DTA. The CaMgSi2O6 phase was identified by heat treatment of the investigated glasses, and the restrained crystallization was observed in the investigated glass with additional C12H22O11. It is indicated that the glasses were prone to surface crystallization, and the inhibited crystallization was caused by the lack of oxygen in the core of the glass added reductant. The kinetic analysis showed that C12H22O11 restrained the crystallization of CaO–MgO–SiO2 glass with increasing the crystallization peak temperature (Tp) and activation energy (E).
