Abstract
This paper presents the results of theoretical studies into the behavior of the through-diaphragm connections to concrete-filled rectangular tubular (CFRT) columns with H-beam in tension. Component-based models have been developed and used for predicting the strength of the connections. The proposed strength model are based upon defining a rigid plate deformation pattern for the column face and through-diaphragm and then applying the virtual work principle, taking into account the axial force on the column. The strength of the connections is given by the contributions from the column tube face in bending, column tube face in tension, and through-diaphragm under combined shear and tension. The connection model is capable of predicting the strength of the connections with the beam subjected to tensile force. Good agreement is found between the theoretical results and the modified experiments from previous research for capacity of connections.
