Abstract

This study reports μPIV flow data analysis and their comparison with numerical results of the flow in 3D mili-scale channels developed for hemodynamic studies. The 3D mili-scale channels represent simplified anatomical models of blood vessels constructed in polidimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and produced by a sucrose casting method. The CFD package used to simulate the flow was ANSYS. Vessels with stenoses were chosen to the study: a straight channel and a channel bifurcating in two daughter channels. The results show a good agreement between the numerical and the experimental data. This work will allow a more realistic approach for future hemodynamic studies focusing on atherosclerosis in mili- scale arteries.
