Abstract
It is important to note that it was in 1947 - seventy years ago - that Paul Ricœur published his first work - with M. Dufrenne - devoted to the philosophical work of Karl Jaspers, whose psychiatrists are well acquainted with the psychopathological work. Having defined the tasks of the Philosophy of existence and the fundamental approach of Jaspers, the great areas of this thought are presented in three major parts: the philosophical exploration of the world tackles knowledge and its limitations by emphasizing the crucial importance of science; the illumination of existence is essential to every destiny and to the world of the famous limit situations individualized by the Master of Heidelberg (death, suffering, fighting, fault) the author tackles the fields of freedom and Communication; the third part deals with the modalities of transcendence and their relationship with existence and freedom. The attitudes of existence are well studied, the challenge and the abandonment in particular, the strength of the suffering and the capacities of the progression of being. The authors conclude their study with reflections on the functions and depths of the philosophy of existence.
