Abstract
⺠Urban Malay Chinese are better at recognising depression than the rural Malay Chinese. ⺠Causes were personality defects, supernatural forces, poor health, biological and genetic factors. ⺠Cures were lifestyle change, alternative medicine, religious observance and professional treatment. ⺠A social rather than a biological perspective was taken.
