Abstract
⺠The mesolimbic dopamine system is activated during stress. ⺠This review examines how social factors influence dopaminergic stress responses. ⺠The ventral tegmental area can induce social withdrawal in rodents. ⺠More work is needed in females and in species with different social systems.
