Abstract
⺠Early preweaning experiences have long-term effects on later mothering behavior. ⺠Compared to controls, postpartum and hormone-treated females have reduced basal DA and elevated pup-evoked DA responses. ⺠Rats raised without their mother had impaired basal DA suppression and pup-evoked DA responses. ⺠Hormone-treatment in OVX rats and tactile stimulation in cycling or parturient rats prevents impairment.
