A catalytic and transition metal-free method for the chemoselective oxidation of alcohols to their corresponding carbonyl compounds using periodic acid or iodic acid in the presence of a catalytic amount of KBr

Chemoselective oxidation of various alcohols was proceeded by using a catalytic amount of KBr in the presence of periodic acid or iodic acid and wet SiO2 under mild and heterogeneous conditions with moderate to excellent yields.
