Abstract
⺠We compare innovative concepts of photosystem I dependent semi-artificial systems for light driven hydrogen production. ⺠Efficiency ranges of noble metal based and hydrogenase based systems are similar. ⺠Hydrogen production efficiency is limited by diffusion dependent electron transfer steps, especially at the PSI donor side. ⺠Promising developmental trends include the use of electron conducting wire compounds and thermostable PSI.
