Abstract
- Urban sprawl by the neoliberal logic led to FDWs' long-distance commuting (LDC).
- FDWs strategized in work relations via LDC to increase their bargaining power.
- Developing new desires, some FDWs used their earnings for family investments.
- This made women's long-distance work an asset in the family and challenged traditional gender roles.
- Yet, women were obliged to work harder and commute longer to fulfill their desires.
