Abstract
Silica chloride as a heterogeneous catalyst has been used for the regioselective synthesis of β-amino-α,β unsaturated esters and ketones. Similar regioselective synthesis was also performed using an ionic liquid 1-n-butyl imidazolium tetrafluoroborate [Hbim]BF4 as a recyclable homogeneous medium as well as a promoter without the need for any added catalyst. Both the methods were found to be remarkably rapid and afforded the β-enaminones in excellent isolated yields.
