Abstract
•The Sn–Ni–V 600 °C isothermal section had been experimentally determined.•A ternary phase is found with a stoichiometry of Sn(Nix, V1−x)3, x = 0.33–0.67.•The NiV3 andσphases have extended Sn solubility of 10.0 and 5.2 at%, respectively.
This study experimentally determines the phase equilibria of the Sn–Ni–V ternary system at 600 °C. To assure equilibria attainment, all sample alloys were annealed for longer than 12 months. A ternary phase was found with a stoichiometry of Sn(Nix, V1−x)3, x = 0.33–0.67. The Ni3Sn2, V3Sn, Ni2V, and σ phases are in equilibrium with the ternary phase. The NiV3 andσphases have extended Sn solubility of 10.0 and 5.2 at%, respectively. The ternary solubility of the other binary phases is limited.
