Abstract
Penicillin G amidase (PGA) from Alcaligenes faecalis, which has useful properties for combinatorial biochemistry, is produced by a recombinant Escherichia coli using a constitutive expression system. Cells are cultured on a semi-defined medium in a 5-L fermentor using fed-batch technology. The fermentation yield is about 23,000 U PGA activity/L broth.
