► Distress tolerance is the ability to experience and endure negative emotional states. ► Distress tolerance predicted hurried driving in a sample of college students. ► Hurried driving was associated with risky driving and reported traffic citations. ► Hurried driving was associated with frustration and impatience with other drivers. ► Campaigns are needed to reduce these negative reactions of high risk drivers.
