Abstract
► Knowledge aspects of driving expertise were assessed. ► Presentation mode of regarding test items was investigated. ► A cross-sectional and a longitudinal study were conducted with experts and novices. ► The integration of animated instead of static scenarios supported only the novices. ► Compared with the experts, the novices' test performance increased over time.
