Abstract
► The motor vehicle-related fatality rate for oil and gas extraction workers is elevated compared to other industry groups. ► Occupants of pick-up trucks were most frequently killed in motor vehicle crashes in the oil and gas extraction industry. ► Workers from small and medium establishments are at increased risk for motor vehicle fatality as compared to workers from large establishments. ► The lack of safety belt use needs to be addressed in this growing industry. ► Current industry guidelines and NIOSH recommendations should be adopted by employers in order to decrease the number of these preventable deaths.
