Prediction of road accidents: A Bayesian hierarchical approach

► Accident risk models are developed using Bayesian Probabilistic Networks. ► The accident risk models can be adapted and updated to new available data. ► A case study was performed considering the entire Austrian rural motorway network. ► Good compliance was found between model predictions and real observations. ► Methodology has relevance for decision making and planning of roads.
